Community Outreach & Charity Initiatives

At Northland Eye Care, we believe strongly in giving back to the community and caring for the eyes of all those in need. Outreach programs represent an opportunity to show the community the level of commitment our optometrists have to their community. The staff also plays an important role in community outreach. All of our offices participate in the Luxottica Vision’s One Sight as well as other charitable services.

We are also committed to improving the eye health and eyecare in Guatamala. Dr. Thomas first went to Guatemala for a medical eye mission with his wife Linda (a hospital pharmacist) in 2001. They traveled with VOSH, whose mission is to “faciliate the provision and sustainability of vision care worldwide for people who can neither afford nor obtain such care.”

He has since returned to the country on 5 missions. They concentrate their efforts on the Peten region of Guatamala, located in the lowlands of the north. In total, Dr. Thomas has examined, treated and provided vision correction for approximately 20,000 – 30,000 residents.

Dr. Thomas was joined in 2009 by office manager Heidi and husband Don, who as opticians provided essential assistance to the mission.

There are no government programs provide vision screening programs for children or assistance for the indigent children, VOSH is providing a vital service through their permanent eye clinics and support of mission groups.
