Position: Office Manager & Optician
Certifications: Licensed Dispensing Optician, American Board of Opticianry Certified, National Contact Lens Examiners Certified, University of Houston, School of Optometry Certified Office Manager.
Start Year: January 2004
Primary Position: I am the office manager of this wonderful eye care facility and also fit and dispense eyeglasses, along with specialty contact lens consultants.
Education/Experience: I have over 30 years’ experience in this exciting field, including working at the offices of Eye Associates of South Georgia and National Vision Associates. I’ve been with Northland Eye Care since we opened in 2003.
Skills You Have Which Help Patients: I understand deeply the selection of lens and frame options, such as paying attention to detail and personal style, providing the perfect fit for each patient with confidence. Wisdom and confidence are grounded in my optical career, and I am very proud of how far it has taken me and helped others along the way.
What Do You Enjoy Outside Work: I enjoy raising puppies for Guide Dogs for The Blind, which I’ve done for many years. I relish reading and spending time with my loved ones.
Certifications: ABO under construction, Ashtanga Yoga Certified, & Jazzercise license
Start Year: January 2019
Primary Position: My primary focus is assisting patients with their eyeglasses so that their optical preference best suits their work and recreational environment. Educating others about their eye needs is a crucial part of process, as well as, fitting them to perfection for optical clarity and paying attention to detail.
Education/Experience: Although I have two BA’s in the Liberal Arts, I have an undeniable thirst for knowledge in many fields of study. I am lucky enough to be a part of this fine business with people like Heidi and Dr. Thomas to help expand my knowledge in the world of optics, and I am grateful for their expertise.
Skills You Have Which Help Patients: My friendliness and empathy have taken me a long way in life, but here at Northland Eye Care, I have grounded myself in compassion above all else; this is because everyone is unique in their optical pitfalls and there are so many eye-related issues that can occur to anyone. This ever-growing field of optics reminds me that people are my passion, and everyone deserves adequate eye care.
What Do You Enjoy Outside Work: I love the outdoors! I enjoy hiking and backpacking the most. Other hobbies include star gazing, tennis, yoga, snowboarding, and disc golf.
Start Year: June 2019
Primary Position Role: A warm smile and friendly greeting are what patients first experience when they arrive, even though we’ve mostly likely met over the phone prior to their appointment, getting carried away by conversation, or perhaps by playing phone tag to figure out insurance information. I love organizing and preparing so that conditions run as smoothly as possible, such as helping dispense and adjust glasses or assisting with contacts.
Education/Experience: I graduated from NAU with Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and minor in Criminology. My experience lies with the customer service realm, such as retail and other medical office settings, where I am constantly interacting with others so that their experience is a pleasant one.
Skills That Help Patients: Besides my hard work ethics, I have an in-depth knowledge of both medical and vision insurance. I am informative to patients and can explain information clearly, so communication is key to my skills.
What Do You Enjoy Outside Work: Outside office life, I enjoy cooking and spending quality time with my fiancé and our dog Nibbles. I also love doing puzzles while watching some of my favorite TV shows, such as Outlander or The Office.
Position: Optometric Tchnician
Start Year: 2018
Primary Position: I gladly direct the first half of the exam through a series of vision and health screening tests. These procedures are coupled with varieties of underlying conditions that are unique to each person and is indeed a learning experience for both me and the patient.
Education/Experience: I am currently completing my B.S. in Biomedical Science with a double minor in Chemistry and Anthropology. I will soon be staring Optometry school and cannot wait to take my skills from Northland Eye Care to the next level!
Skills You Have Which Help Patients: I am warm and friendly towards patients and they trust my calming approach as I am running tests, giving information, and asking questions concerning their eye health. I enjoy anticipating their needs and try my best to help them feel as comfortable and content as possible.
What Do You Enjoy Outside Work: I will read as many books as humanly possible! Spending time with good friends and good people is the spice of life, and I adore meeting new dogs, especially at the local farmer’s market.
Position: Optometric Technician
Start Year: 2019
Primary Position: I assist patients with preliminary exams such as acuities, fields, and auto refraction, as well as, creating a pleasant and comfortable experience for the patients during this process.
Education/Experience: I possess a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Idaho; my experience and passion lies in my will to learn and accept new challenges.
Skills You Have Which Help Patients: I am personable, patient, and compassionate; these qualities have taken me a long way in the workplace. I try to develop positive relationships with patients because I see positive results.
What Do You Enjoy Outside Work: Outside work I enjoy trail running, hiking, skiing, baking, and reading a good book.
